Who We Are

CULTIVATE is a new 501(c)(3) non-profit with a mission to strengthen and expand our local food system by supporting markets and infrastructure that benefit small scale producers and regenerative farming practices and through cultivating a supportive and ever-growing community of mindful consumers.

Our organization has grown from a passionate group of folks involved in The Iowa Food Coop (IFC) and looks to support the success of all small scale producers and marketing ventures that bolster our local food economy. 

The Community Events and Education Coordinator role will complete objectives from two grant funded projects. 

Through both the USDA Farmers Market Promotion Program  the IDALS Specialty Crop Block Program this role will work to increase consumer education, and therefore greater support of local food markets, by hosting a series of workshop modules, pop up events and community presentations along with helping to develop an accompanying resource library on the CULTIVATE website regarding local food and the importance of supporting regenerative agriculture. This role will include content development with the CULTIVATE team, registration and logistics, coordinating with partners, presenters and producers for events and survey follow up. This role will also communicate with marketing partners for the design and content of event promotion materials.

This role is quite flexible and activities such as consumer education workshops may occur during normal business hours, after hours, or on weekends.

Salary and Supports

This role offers:

  • A competitive salary range, depending on experience $16 - $20/hr

  • A flexible work schedule

  • Ability to work from home for some aspects of the project

  • Up to $50/month phone stipend

This role will be on a team with and report to the Program Manager. The IFF staff is also supported by an experienced and involved volunteer board

What We Are Looking For

For this role we are looking for someone who is first and foremost passionate about local, regenerative farming practices and increasing the support of local food in Iowa!

  • We are looking for someone who enjoys working with people and is readily able to form relationships and rapport with a wide range of people.

  • Experience with event planning and management (registration, event details and communication)

  • Social media experience, including short form videos and stories (Facebook, Instagram & TikTok)

  • Good communication and collaboration skills
